Nightcap - 3 Serves

Everyone loves a good cocktail, especially us! Nightcap is a real hidden gem in Edinburgh’s York Place.

The cosy cocktail restaurant and bar is spread over two floors with candlelit tables, it is the perfect place to spend a dreich evening sampling the eclectic drinks on offer.

We went down to produce some content to showcase some of their signature serves and boy were they good. The bar itself is nestled in the cellar of a period building in the New Town and this lends itself perfectly to the inviting, warm ambience they have created at Nightcap, which in turn set a perfect backdrop for us to film.

The first cocktail we shot being made was the namesake, The Nightcap. Based on an Old Fashioned, but with a twist. Garnished with a metal nail and served with a burnt match for real theatre there is definitely more than a little of an industrial feel to it.

The Timeless Martini is meant to be shared, a modern take on a classic drink but for two. Made with a stunning balance of herbs such as nettle, thyme and lemongrass, this cocktail is super fresh and herbaceous and certainly pretty to look at.

Thirdly, The Long Goodbye is very unusual and based on the Noir Film of the same title. A savoury drink with tandoori like flavours presented with incense to keep things hazy and mysterious.

Of the three signature drinks we tried, The Nightcap was our top pick, followed closely by The Long Goodbye.

Nightcap is definitely somewhere we recommend to check out and sample some unusual and special drinks in Edinburgh.
